I am a blacksmith and sculptor reshaping iron scrap and girders into character portraits.
I set out to challenge and broaden smithery by creating sculptures of linear restraint with a contemporary touch. My statutes are observations on precarious interpersonal relationships and the darker sides of their character. In my body of work, gold finishing contrasts with iron debris, reflecting the multiplicity of human behavior. I believe that by reshaping ugly, useless construction iron I can raise it to the value of precious metal. In other words: the alchemic transition from scrapyard to gallery.
I am Luciano Mayaci.
